Leaving Room for Changes in the Artist’s Creative Process | Cbabi Bayoc

Visual Artist and Illustrator

Art has the ability to educate, to spark contemplation and even inspire introspection of the viewer. Little, if any, thought is given to the impact art and societal issues have on an artist and how they create in the manner in which they create. What shaped their viewpoint?

ABOUT CBABI:

Cbabi (pronounced Kuh-bob-bi) Bayoc is a visual artist and illustrator. His work can be identified through unique, bold and colorful artistry, while adding some “phunk”. Musician Prince, a fan and collector of Bayoc’s, selected one of his masterpieces to be featured on his 2001 album, Rainbow Children. Bayoc continued to excel throughout the years where he draws inspiration from personal experiences, community engagement, world issues, education and so much more. If you were to visit St. Louis, you will probably see Bayoc’s masterpieces on/in homes, hospitals, residential buildings, within small businesses and major corporations, throughout schools, in libraries and other areas where appreciation of art can be acknowledged.

A Little Change Can Solve a Big Poverty Problem | Theresa Carrington

Founder and CEO of Ten by Three

What if we could make one small tweak to the way we address poverty and not only end it, but end it for someone in three years? And better yet, for that solution to be sustainable? With a little change we can end extreme poverty.

ABOUT THERESA:

Theresa Carrington set out to address the issue of extreme poverty. Her organization sought out impoverished artisan makers to produce baskets, with a mission to help them sustainably exit extreme poverty. Theresa and her team discovered the tipping point from extreme poverty to prosperity came when an artisan sold ten products a month for three years. The project was officially renamed to Ten by Three®, catapulting this sustainable formula into the spotlight and helping grow beyond baskets. This formula has been successfully replicated in 8 developing nations throughout three continents. Theresa has been internationally recognized for her work including by the United Nations.

Big Change, Little Change and Climate Change | Joe Steensma

Professor at Washington University in St Louis

We often think of climate change in very macro terms. We see the globe, we see the big red spots on the heat maps. We see giant storms and forest fires. But what are the little changes that impact these effects? Joe will reveal seemingly small changes (think bugs & birds) that are having huge impacts on our planet.

ABOUT JOE:

Joseph Steensma’s work exemplifies “transdisciplinary”. In addition to being a successful scientist and entrepreneur who has founded and led several thriving businesses focused on sustainability, he also conducts groundbreaking research in environmental health as a Professor at Washington University in St Louis. His research has taken him all over the world where he has seen firsthand the myriad impacts of a rapidly changing climate. Joe’s work at the nexus of the economic, ecologic, political and cultural systems has given him a unique view into the macro and micro level impacts of climate change.
